Design Ideas
Designer Kate Halstead & I explored the idea of finding horror & control within traditionally ‘feminine’ imagery.
Kate designed a brilliant set, which used a 7m x 7m baker miller pink carpet.
‘Baker Miller Pink was the result of research in the 1960s into the psychological & physiological responses to the colour pink. Pink was found to calm people down.
Baker & Miller were directors at the Naval Correctional Institute in Seattle. They tested this theory by painting prison cells pink to see if they could control their behaviour.
The colour - Baker Miller Pink- has since been used to control behaviour in schools, prisons, hospitals & in changing rooms of the opposition at sporting events (now banned).’
