Imy is a theatre director from London. She trained on the Drama Directing MA at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School after studying Philosophy and English Literature at Edinburgh University.
Her work has been produced at theatres including Arcola Theatre, Park Theatre, Jermyn Street Theatre, International Theatre, Frankfurt, and Kiln Theatre (with Kiln Youth Theatre). Her next production is ‘This Little Earth’ by Jessica Norman- tickets on sale here. She was a recent recipient of the Nicole Kidman Bursary from Michael Grandage Futures 2025, a Develop Your Creative Practice grant to learn about Opera Direction in 2024 and the Charlie Hartill Award 2024. Her production ‘BEASTS’ by Mandi Chivasa was awarded a Fringe First Award in 2023.
Most of Imy’s directing work has centered new writing and has focused on forming close relationships with playwrights. Most of it has been quite funny (some has been very funny). Often it plays with form within the text or theatricality within the design - she loves magical realism and finding strong visual moments. It always has a political question that interrogates the world that we live in.
She recently finished working as the Mackintosh Resident Assistant Director at Kiln Theatre 2024-5, where she assisted on four shows. As part of this she attended rehearsals for Hamilton and Phantom of the Opera for four moths. She also worked extensively as a facilitator for young people aged 7 - 18. Other assisting includes ‘Private Lives’ in the West End and touring productions with Theatre Royal Bath. She worked as Associate Director on Theatre Royal Bath’s touring production of ‘The Dance of Death’.
She was an Artistic Associate at Arcola Theatre 2023-4, where she worked on programming, producing and script reading, and a Creative Associate at Jermyn Street Theatre 2022-3.
